My Thoughts
I did finally get this finished and despite a rocky...what I thought to be drawn out beginning, I loved it. It was Claire getting her bearings in 1743, that took me so long to get through, but once she had her feet firmly wet in Scottish soil I just couldn't put the novel down. There were a few things that weren't really kosher with me, their treatment of her and the peculiar character of Geillis Duncan.
I really liked the majority of the characters, what can I say they were hard not to like even from the beginning with their humor, the characters I didn't like were those of English heritage. The difference a few generations can make, I certainly after running into Frank's ancestor would be curious to see how much Jack Randall and Frank were really alike and how they differ even more than what was explained in the book.

They have started to turn the book series into a television show and that was what originally prompted me to start reading. I really liked the show and I didn't want to wait for the episodes to be released for me to find out what happened so I decided to read it. If you get the chance, read the novel before watching the show...it's so much better, and it explains a lot of things in greater detail...like most novel turned into movie/tv shows thing goes. If you've already watched the show, and you liked it, you'll love the book even better.

Diana Jean Gabaldon Watkins grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona and is of Mexican-American and English descent. She has earned three degrees: a B.S. in Zoology, a M.S. in Marine Biology, and a Ph.D in Ecology.
